I went to orientation on Monday the instructor was 45 mins. late. He made jokes and tried to act like tv personalities then complained because we were running late and not getting what we need covered.

The secretaries sat down the hall and screamed the drivers names out expecting us to understand them and get up leave class to go see what the needed, The instructor complained about us leaving and interrupting class. They would tell the drivers they need info from doctors, former employers and what ever. When we called to get the info and had to take call backs from the Drs office they would threaten to kick us out of class, like you can call a dr and talk to the dr. the minute you call. Orientation was mostly canned recordings when you asked a question most of the answers were I don't know or call your recuiter or ask you DM once you get on the road.

Orientation was suppose to b 2 1/2 days on the 2en day they told me they need a drs. note, I already had it ( had asked the recuriter 5 times if it need to be worded any certain way, No just a note releasing you to go to work)secretaries said there may be a problem with the way it is worded. On the 4th day they still had not contacted saftey to find out if it was going to be a problem.

The recuitor said I would get top pay 40.5 a mile on day 4 I'm told on some loads I'll get .34 on some .37 and if the load is less than 300 miles I'll get 40.5.

Bottom line there recuriter lie and there orientation is a joke and on day 4 they had wasted enough of my time and I left and went somewhere else.

Monetary Loss: $1000.

Location: Winter Park, Florida

I had pretty much the same experience with them. I went through orientation in Irving, TX. Put us up in a horrible hotel (counting entry light and bathroom light there were 6 lights in the room, only three worked and one flickered and made a sparky noise so we were afraid to use it, complained and they sent maintenance 30 minutes later notta, called back and dude claimed he'd already been there so they sent him back, he actually came this time, and he wiggled some cords and changed a light bulb..thats it, didnt fix anything) The orientation instructor felt the need to put swift down over every little thing, some folks might not care, but to me it says alot about you or your company if you have to put others down to shine a good light on yourselves (and in my experience swift was actually a better company). They had two 3 day classes going on at once, so wednesday was an overlapping day and both classes were in same room. they skipped back and forth over the material never stopping to focus or make sure things like hometime policy or dedicated options were understood or known of. The HR chicks kept yelling down the hall for us to come in for this or that. people having to leave class for phone calls for info and instructor would get irritated with them. They really didnt have any screening done prior to you getting there and once you were there if you weren't hired on you were responsible for your own transportation home. None of this was ever mentioned by recruiter otherwise i never would have gone.

OOh and you test on an automatic truck, which seems pretty silly. There was a guy in the class that somehow had gone to school on an automatic, worked a previous job with an automatic and now was being tested on an automatic(sucks for him when he finds out what real trucking is about).

Orientation was a horrible first impression of the company, But I had a pretty decent Fleet manager at first. However I got stuck in California for first two months making short hauls from LA to San Francisco or Sacramento then back to LA. Absolutely couldnt get out of Cali. And worse still It seemed that Cali DOT had it out for US Xpress, Pulling me in at every port even though we have prepass. I later heard US Xpress has a somewhat low CSA score and that was why i was being pulled in.

I got on a dedicated account(just to get out of Cali) that was supposed to allow me to be home more yet from christmas to mid april I didn't get home despite base being 100 miles from home. I finally got fed up and just started not saying anything and bobtailing home after I dropped a load instead of asking permission. . . .Not a word was said about it. That sends a pretty bad signal about management, If I do the right thing I'm punished, but if I just ignore you and do what I want nothing is said and there are no repercussions.

The equipment is pretty lame, No catwalk, no Load lock rack. No suspension dump, no johnny bar, no fog lights, no niceties like fridges or APUs. The equipment is frequently in shop or being nursed along to avoid shop. First truck climbed parleys out of salt lake doing barely 15 mph with only 15000 lbs in the box and the truck actually shut down twice on the way up. I've taken that hill doing 40 with 45000 lbs. Then Coming out of cheyenne on I-80 headed west, from I25 to the top of MT Sherman I could Not get above 55 MPH and thats not even a hilly area and I only had 35,000 Lbs. I put it in the International dealer in Riverside california, They claimed it was just a gutless truck. Then upon my insistence they tested it and found ahhh gee an EGR problem. Next truck I had started Eating 2 Gallons of coolant a week and 2 gallons or more of oil every other week. US Xpress only allows you to add 1 gallon of oil a week to your fuel. So coolant or anything above 1 gallon of oil you have to pay for yourself and get US Xpress to pay you back (I dont make enough to loan money to a multimillion dollar company). It visited several shops multiple times over the course of months with the result of eventually fixing most of that problem and replacing it with other problems that were the result of shop screw ups (transwest freightliner in Commerce city Colorado Im looking at you :( ).

Talked to many drivers and the consensus was "ok place to work, NIICE terminals, *** equipment." I recently left their employ and have no intention of going back. It wasnt wholly awful but I know there's better out there.

I went to orientation over a month ago, it took a week but im leased on and been making good money, real good money, my truck is paid for though.

I did not do fleece to own. Now what I seen in orientation was guys

Coming in dressed like thugs with there pants around there knees, the half of them

Got.sent home.after the drug test, and a few gave incorrect background

Info. And they sent home the other thugs. If you want to .work where

correct pants size, and a belt, dont smoke pot and look

Like a professional. I make dam good money, I know.company drivers making good money but you cant start any job expecting to be at the top of the pay scale.

They dont know nothing aboht your work ethic, how you work with others,

So you expect them to put you in a 70000 buck truck hualing milions of dollars of frieght and not look into your backround. You sound like a weal ruck river, huh huh der.

Is us xpress just a 5 panel dip stick test?

Guest

if u had read what i said I never did go 2 work for them I did LEAVE and go somewhere ELSE I was trying to keep someone else for wasting 4 days dealing with there jerks. If u like these jerks GREAT HOPE u have fun with them I just stated my experience with them

Guest

if you didnt not like the job, go home, no one holding you back, why are driver say bad thing about were they work an still employee there,

Guest

U.S. Xpress is a terrible company the reason why they do so well is because they are bad with their drivers.

All that garbage that they are here for their drivers is all a lie. Ask them how many lease or owner operators go into the hole. They do not care all they do is take. There are people that lose alot and go weeks without making any money.

That is why they have good equipment it is because their drivers are working for nothing. I think they should be investigated

Here is the problem. Truck drivers always think they are so smart.

Well for starters guys if you were so smart you may be doing something other than jumping from one trucking orientation to another. If your backgrounds were good office jocks wouldnt have to spend days trying to find out who you really are. If you were sa good as the old truck driver used to be these issues wouldnt take place and they wouldnt have to run punk truuck drivers in in droves to move America's freight.

Quit blaming everybody else because your a degenerate non truck driving individual. Most of you wouldnt make a pimple on a real truck drivers butt.

Guest

Sounds like most places. Nothin but a *** circus.

Treat ya like you are some kind of criminal right from the bat. All they have to do is run you criminal background, DAC, social security history, *** test ya, and make sure you can back the *** truck up. The reason this goes on at all companies is simple.

We as drivers put up with it! So shame on us!!!

Guest

yeap, I left out they feed you subway sandwich everyday, they run 50 people at a time throught there because they know nobody going to stay, they put you up in a *** *** hotel, do I need to go on are do you get the point. They told one woman to go get hazmat on her license ran her from Washington state on a bus then told her they couldn't hire her because she didn't have her permenent license, she had to get home at her expense.

John Dos

Whats the rest of the story??? I'm willing to bet that there's somethings you left out of your story. :sigh
